Travel information sheet reassures those with poor short term memory

On a recent airline trip, I sat next to a woman who was returning to her home from a visit with her son. Periodically, she referred to a sheet of paper she kept in her hand.

The paper was in a clear acetate sleeve backed with colored card stock paper. At the top of the paper, it said, Today is Thursday, May 8. Below were listed the details of her trip including flight numbers, departure and landing times, gates numbers, if available, and  who would be there to meet her when she arrived, and where to look for them.

This woman was on a direct flight, but if she had to change planes including a map of the airport with the route to her terminal highlighted would have been helpful I am sure.

This was a great way for her loved ones to reassure her while coping with unfamiliar circumstances in unfamiliar territory. It made me think about how this strategy could be used in other travel circumstances as well as negotiating new situations around home.
