Make doorways wider by removing door jamb

To make your home doorways wider and more accessible to someone in a wheelchair, try removing the door jambs on either side of the door frame; this will gain another 1/2 inch or so.

Another way to gain a little more pass-through room is to cut out the door jamb molding from the floor up about 3 to 4 feet from the floor. Removing this portion of the door jamb will add an extra 1/2 -1 inch of clearance for the wheelchair to get through.
